- Mike Ciesnolevicz to return in 2010

After a disappointing two-fight stint with the Ultimate Fighting Championship earlier this year, Miletich Fighting Systems light-heavyweight Mike Ciesnolevicz is eager to return to action and make a return to the limelight.
As Ciesnolevicz recently told MMAWeekly.com, his loss to Tomasz Drwal at The Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale in June, which led to his dismissal from the UFC, was a fight he probably should have passed on.
“I knew I shouldn't have filled in (for Eric Schafer),” he admitted. “I was nursing a partial tear in a knee ligament, but it’s the UFC so I couldn’t say no. I tried to cut an insane amount of weight and it really showed in my performance.
“It’s the biggest regret in my MMA career to this point, but it is what it is and I tried.”
While Ciesnolevicz understands his release from the UFC was a business decision, he still feels like he could have proven himself worthy have he been given the opportunity to do so.
“Both my UFC fights were on short notice and I stepped up winning the first (against Neil Grove) by submission in 63 seconds,” he stated. “I feel I should have gotten a third fight, but it’s business and the fact is short notice or not, I had a horrible performance (against Drwal).”
Having been nearly six months since his loss to Drwal, Ciesnolevicz made good use of his time off by using it to improve his game.
“I had surgery on my orbital bone which I had a small bone chip in, and dedicated myself to improving my skill sets,” he said of his time off.
“I received my black belt in the Miletich Fighting Systems from Pat Miletich as a certified instructor in his style of MMA and also my Brazilian jiu-jitsu purple belt from my coach Rodrigo Uzeda.”
Back healthy and eager to return to action, Ciesnolevicz has already lined up fights for a return early next year.
“On Jan. 23, it will be my comeback fight at the Midwest Championship Fighting V in North Platte, Neb., at heavyweight against six-foot-six-inch Justin Grizzard,” announced Ciesnolevicz. “Then on March 12, I will fight for Duke Roufus’ United States Fighting Championship against top local ranked heavyweight Reese Shaner.”
Should all go well in his return, he has his sights set on stepping back up onto the big stages of MMA.
“I would like to have another shot in the UFC in 2010,” Ciesnolevicz stated. “Strikeforce is also on my radar.
“I wouldn’t be opposed to fighting in Japan, which has always been a goal of mine. In the meantime I am looking to fight every month. I would like to fight at least eight times in 2010.”
Having learned from his mistakes, Ciesnolevicz feels he can once again pull off a multi-fight winning steak as he has done in the past and earn his way back to prominence.
“I have to thank a lot of my friends and teammates that support me at MFS in Iowa,” concluded Ciesnolevicz. “Sandy Bowman, MFS Canada, my awesome girlfriend Valerie, Warrior Wear, Headblade, NAGA, Bowmanstaekwondo.com, Valette Roofing, Aqua Industries, ParkBotox.com, and of course my manager Monte Cox.
“I hope 2010 is gonna be a big year for me, and check out my website at MikeC205.com to stay updated!”
